Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Saturday 10th June
The Woodley Community Carnival has been at the heart of our community since 1960 and is a much-loved tradition. Every year it brings together the local community and provides a fundraising opportunity for our local groups, who join us in the afternoon with a range of stalls and activities. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
The theme for this year’s carnival is “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” and we are busy making sure the afternoon is full of family fun for all ages. The field will be packed with our local community groups and joining them will be feature displays from the Reading & District Cage Bird Society, The Traction Engine Club, Reading Buses, Delta Fly-Ball and the Woodley First Responders.
We are delighted to be able to have a full-scale replica Spitfire with original cockpit on display. This is the only static Spitfire in the world with a working WWII Rolls Royce Engine. Visitors will be able to see the Spitfire up close, sit in the cockpit and experience an engine start-up during the afternoon.
The Oakwood Centre will house some colorful exhibits from the Woodley Flower Club and the Woodley Photographic Club will be displaying the results from this year’s carnival photographic competition. In Coronation Hall, Loddon Vale Model Railway Club will have a range of wonderful layouts including one especially for children, allowing them to have a go at driving trains around the track.
You can get all nostalgic at the ‘Classics in the Park’ car show organised by the Hants & Berks Motor Club. If you have a classic vehicle or bike you are welcome to bring this along and join in.
We have plenty for our dog lovers too. Delta Flyball Club will be racing in the main arena, Flyball is fast, noisy and EXCITING! You can also enter our Dog Show which has lots of fun categories for everyone to join in with.
Carnival day is all about our local community and our main arena will have a range of local groups performing throughout the afternoon. For younger children, there will be free entry to Inflatable World with seven impressive inflatables to enjoy, there will also be free rides on the Smiley Train and the mini open top Bus, both firm favourites the whole family can enjoy.
Visit our walk-in farm animal petting area. Miller's Ark Animals brings the sights, sounds and experiences of the farmyard to the heart of the carnival. Come and say hello and make some new friends, with the opportunity to touch, smell & hold the animals.
The carnival procession will be travelling the streets of Woodley, make sure you catch it on route or on the carnival field as it passes through at around 2.30pm. We hope our theme will inspire some wonderfully decorated floats and walking displays. Taking part in the procession is FREE, so why not enter a float and join in the fun.
If you choose to stay into the evening, you can bring a picnic to enjoy in the park whilst listening to the live music and then watching our firework finale.
A wide selection of food will be available to keep you going throughout the afternoon and evening. Choose from local groups or commercial stands who will no doubt be providing a scrumptious selection of hot food. The carnival bar will be serving a range of beers, wines and soft drinks as well as Pimms by the glass or jug.
Entry to the afternoon carnival is £4.00 for adults & Seniors, £1.00 for children and under 3's are free. If you are looking to stay for the
